Citation: Acanthoica laffittei (Jerkovic 1971) Aubry 1999
Rank: Species
Basionym: Blackites laffittei Jerkovic 1971
Synonyms: Blackites balcanicus Jerkovic 1971
Acanthoica balcanicus (Jerkovic 1971) Aubry 1999 [possible synonym cf. Galovic & Young (2012) - type specimen is poorly figured and could be something else]
Syracosphaera beogradiensis Jerkovic 1971
Acanthoica beogradiensis (Jerkovic 1971) Aubry 1999 [possible synonym cf. Galovic & Young (2012) - type specimen is poorly figured and could be something else]

Distinguishing features: Circular to broadly elliptical; rim broad; two concentric lath cycles; low central protrusion

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: Blackites laffittei * , Blackites balcanicus * , Syracosphaera beogradiensis *

Morphology remarks: The concentric lath cycles are best seen on the proximal surface, on the distal surface they are often obscured by irregular laths extending down from the central protrusion. Coccolith she varies from circular to distinctly elliptical, even on single collapsed coccospheres.
