Micula staurophora

Classification: Mesozoic -> Nannoliths inc sedis -> Polycyclolithaceae -> Micula -> Micula staurophora
Sister taxa: M. staurophora, M. adumbrata, M. concava, M. cubiformis, M. swastica, M. murus, M. prinsii, M. clypeata, M. praemurus, M. premolisilvae, M. sp.,

Distinguishing features: Typical form; cube-shaped; all 8 elements of similar size

Taxonomy:

Citation: Micula staurophora (Gardet, 1955) Stradner, 1963
Rank: Species
Basionym: Discoaster staurophorus Gardet, 1955
Synonyms: Micula decussata Vekshina, 1959
Notes & discussion: M. staurophora was described from reworked specimens in Eocene sediments. Many workers have prefered to use the name M. decussata since it was described from in situ Cretaceous specimens, however, M. staurophora clearly has priority.
