Trigonaspis minutissima

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Holococcoliths -> open-tube -> Trigonaspis -> Trigonaspis minutissima
Sister taxa: P. borealis HOL, T. melvillea, T. minutissima, P. garrisonii HOL, T. sp.,

Citation: Trigonaspis minutissima Thomsen 1980
Rank: Species

Distinguishing features: Similar to T. diskoensis but smaller (cells 2-3.5µm vs 5-6µm; CFCs 1-1.5µm vs 1.5-2.5µm high). Tower coccoliths only at flagellar pole

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: Trigonaspis minutissima *

Size: Cells 2-3.5 µm; CFCs 1.0-1.5 µm high; BCs < 1 µm long.

Biology & life-cycles: Thomsen & Ostergaard (2014) suggst that T. minutissima is likley to be the alternate life-cycle stage of Pappomonas flabellifera, based on biogeographic observations.
