Calcidiscus premacintyrei

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Coccolithales -> Calcidiscaceae -> Calcidiscus -> C. leptoporus group -> Calcidiscus premacintyrei
Sister taxa: C. gallagheri, C. leptoporus, C. macintyrei, C. pataecus, C. premacintyrei, C. salomonii, C. tropicus,

Citation: Calcidiscus premacintyrei Theodoridis, 1984
Rank: Species
Notes & discussion: This species is similar to C. macintyrei but is limited in stratigraphical range, and readily distinguished by the elliptical central area.

Distinguishing features: Large, weakly elliptical species of Calcidiscus, central area open, and distinctly elliptical.

Geological Range:
Notes: An age range of NN4 to NN6 is rather well established for this taxon (e.g. Theodoridis 1984, Young 1998). Backman et al. (2012) use the LAD to define the top of their zone CNM8.  Boesiger et al. (2017) give a very simlar age estimate for he LAD of
Last occurrence (top): in upper part of NN6 zone (60% up, 12.6Ma, in Serravallian stage). Data source: Backman et al. 2012 (fig. 2)
First occurrence (base): near base of NN4 zone (5% up, 17.8Ma, in Burdigalian stage). Data source: Boesiger et al. 2017
