Classification: Coccolithophores -> Nannolith families inc sed -> Lithostromationaceae -> Lithostromation
Sister taxa: Lithostromation, Imperiaster, Lacunolithus, Martiniaster, Isolithus,

Daughter taxa: (blue => in age window 0-800Ma)
Ellipsoidal central body with ends extended as spines
Medium-sized (5-10 µm), sub-circular
Large, triangular nannoliths with porous structure formed from small crystallites.
6 long free rays at two levels
Hexagonal, perforate nannolith with low birefringence. Six thin rays extend a short distance beyond the margin of hexagonal disc with numerous pores. Secondary shorter rays are present between each of the longer rays, which terminate at the disc edge.

Hexradiate with distinct free rays, all 6 rays similar,  ridge runs along length of rays
