Notes & discussion: Syracosphaera is a characteristic extant taxon with only a spotty fossil record. Nonetheless occurences down to the Eocene are now well-established. Turonian specie illustrated and decribed by Bown et al. 2017 appear to extend rage into the Cretaceous and some Stradnerlithus species appear very similar.
