Distinguishing features: Biscutum-like coccoliths with large, hollow, flaring spines, closed distally by a domed covering.

Morphology remarks: Covington (1994) noted an association of B. candens with simlar coccoliths with minimal spines, which he described as Biscutum dekaenelii - he suggests these may be  dimorphic forms on a single coccosphere.
