Classification: Mesozoic -> Braarudosphaerales -> Braarudosphaeraceae -> Braarudosphaera -> Braarudosphaera quinquecostata
Sister taxa: B. amputans, B. batilliformis, B. bigelowii, B. pseudobatilliformis, B. turbinea, B. wendlerae, B. stenorhetha, B. africana, B. hockwoldensis, B. primula, B. regularis, B. quinquecostata, B. sp.,

Distinguishing features: Braarudosphaera with sutural ridges on the pentaliths

Taxonomy:

Citation: Braarudosphaera quinquecostata Hill, 1976
Rank: Species
Synonyms: Braarudosphaera gartneri Wind & Wise 1977 in Wise & Wind 1977 - the two species were described at the same time from Albian sediments and are virtually identical [my interpretation - JRY 2015]
Notes & discussion: Lambert (1986) argued that B. quinquecostata was a morphotype of B. africana, representing forms with minimal cone development.
