Catinaster mexicanus

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Discoasterales -> Discoasteraceae -> Catinaster -> Catinaster mexicanus
Sister taxa: C. calyculus, C. coalitus, C. glenos, C. mexicanus, C. sp.,

Taxonomy:

Citation: Catinaster mexicanus Bukry, 1971
Rank: Species
Notes & discussion: Probably isolated central-areas of discoasters rather than a discrete species. NB Occasional citations in NN14-15 are probably records of D. altus.

Distinguishing features: Compact nannolith formed of six stubby rays with similar shape to C. coalitus but lacking the basket-like structure.
