Chiphragmalithus barbatus

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Zygodiscales -> Zygodiscaceae -> Chiphragmalithus -> Chiphragmalithus barbatus
Sister taxa: C. acanthodes, C. armatus, C. barbatus, C. calathus, C. muzylevii, C. vandenberghei, C. sp.,

Distinguishing features: Subcircular to square Chiphragmalithus.

Citation: Chiphragmalithus barbatus Perch-Nielsen, 1967
Rank: Species
Variants: Chiphragmalithus altinlii Varol (1989) - "distinguished from C. barbatus by having a rim which does not exceed the limit of the wall" the meaning of this sentence is not immediately obvious but possibly indicates that in C. altinii there is no proximal flange, whereas there is one in C. barbatus. Both forms are confined to zone NP12.
