Small to medium, elliptical placolith coccoliths with broad central-areas spanned by lattice-like grills that are dominated by transverse bars.
Small, elliptical placolith coccoliths with broad central-areas spanned by lattice-like grills that are dominated by longitudinal bars.
Medium to large, elliptical placolith coccoliths with broad central-areas spanned by a plate formed from small non-aligned rectangular elements.
Medium sized, bicyclic placolith with dark outer-cycle, slightly brighter inner cycle and relatively wide central-area (approximately same width as shields). In SEM a central-area net is evident.

Citation: Craticullithus Bown, 2010Rank: GenusType species: Craticullithus cancellus Bown, 2005Notes & discussion: The rim and central structures are similar to Cruciplacolithus and so this genus is placed within the Family Coccolithaceae, although their rim structure is also comparable with coccoliths currently classified within the Calcidiscaceae.
Distinguishing features: Placolith coccoliths with a wide central-area typically spanned by multi-element lattice-like grills or imperforate plates.

Last occurrence (top): in lower part of Ypresian Stage (28% up, 53.7Ma, in Ypresian stage). Data source: Total of range of species in this database
First occurrence (base): near base of Thanetian Stage (8% up, 59Ma, in Thanetian stage). Data source: Total of range of species in this database
Plot of occurrence data:
- Range-bar - range as quoted above, pink interval top occurs in, green interval base occurs in.
- Triangles indicate an event for which a precise placement has been suggested
- Neptune data: This is a higher taxon page so Neptune data is not plotted. See also: customisable plot Parent: Coccolithaceae
