Cruciellipsis cuvillieri

Classification: Mesozoic -> Podorhabdales -> Cretarhabdaceae -> Cruciellipsis -> Cruciellipsis cuvillieri
Sister taxa: C. cuvillieri, C. sp.,

Distinguishing features: Cretarhabdids with relatively broad shields and a central area spanned by tapering, broad, axial cross bars that are strongly birefringent with median extinction lines.

Daughter taxa: (blue => in age window 0-800Ma)

Like Cruciellipsis cuvillieri cuvillieri but larger (>10 µm) and with small central area

Taxonomy:

Citation: Cruciellipsis cuvillieri(Manivit, 1966) Thierstein, 1971
Rank: Species
Basionym: Coccolithus cuvillieri Manivit, 1966

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: Coccolithus cuvillieri *

Distinguishing features: Cretarhabdids with relatively broad shields and a central area spanned by tapering, broad, axial cross bars that are strongly birefringent with median extinction lines.

Morphology remarks: Fine radial laths occur in the central area in well-preserved specimens

See also: Helenea chiastia - very similar but without the median extinction lines in the cross, or laths in central area;;

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): within Late Hauterivian Substage (130.77-133.09Ma, top in Hauterivian stage). Data source: Bown et al. 1998
First occurrence (base): within Early Berriasian Substage (143.57-145.01Ma, base in Berriasian stage). Data source: Bown et al. 1998
