Classification: Coccolithophores -> Coccolithales -> Coccolithaceae -> Cruciplacolithus -> Cruciplacolithus filigranus
Sister taxa: C. neohelis, C. kanungoi ⟩⟨ C. cruciformis, C. flavius, C. klausii, C. nishii, C. tarquinius ⟩⟨ C. asymmetricus, C. edwardsii, C. frequens ⟩⟨ C. intermedius, C. primus, C. subrotundus, C. tenuis ⟩⟨ C. filigranus, C. inseadus, C. latipons, C. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Cruciplacolithus filigranus Mai, 2001
Rank: Species
Synonyms:

Catostaura filigrana (Mai 2001) Aubry in Aubry & Bord (2009). The genus Catostaura was proposed for this species on the basis of its  unusual central structure and the way in which lower tube cycle protrudes distally.

Distinguishing features: Cruciplacolithus with narrow cross bars and a delicate net.
