Taxonomy:

Citation: Cruciplacolithus inseadus Perch-Nielsen, 1969
Rank: Species
Synonyms: Cruciplectus inseadus (Perch-Nielsen 1969) Aubry in Aubry & Bord (2009). The new genus Cruciplectus was proposed for this genus on the basis of the distinctive central area structure.
Notes & discussion: Rarely if ever distinguished in LM. The central structure is identical in form to the Mesozoic species Sollasites lowei (Bukry, 1969), the Jurassic murolith coccoliths Vacherauvillius mirus Goy, 1981 and extant papposphaeraceans, indicating that this grill architecture occurs across distinct taxonomic groups.

Distinguishing features: Small to moderate Cruciplacolithus with narrow axial cross bars and additional bars that run parallel to the inner edge of the central area.
