Citation: Discoaster prepentaradiatus ssp. plautus Browning & Bergen, in Browning et al. 2017Rank: sub-speciesTaxonomic discussion: This form is often regarded as the typical type of D. prepentaradiatus, however in the original description whilst Bukry & Percival (1971) illustrated both forms they selected a specimen with slender bifurcations for the holotype.

Geological Range:
Notes: Browning et al. (2017) record this form as having a consisitently lower LAD in the Gulf of Mexico than the form with robust bifurcations.
Last occurrence (top): in upper part of NN10 zone (83% up, 8.5Ma, in Tortonian stage). Data source: Browning et al 2017
First occurrence (base): in mid part of NN9 zone (51% up, 10Ma, in Tortonian stage). Data source: Browning et al 2017
Plot of occurrence data:
- Range-bar - range as quoted above, pink interval top occurs in, green interval base occurs in.
- Triangles indicate an event for which a precise placement has been suggested
- (NB There is no histogram as there are no occurrence records for the taxon in the Neptune database) Parent: Discoaster prepentaradiatus
