Distinguishing features: Large, heliolith with two thin birefringent cycles. The narrow cycle is around 3/4 of the width of the wider cycle.

Geological Range:
Notes: Agnini et al. (2007) record the LCO of H. kleinpellii low in NP7-8. So, notwithstanding the Lo high in nP8 recorded by Varol (1989) the species isessentially charcteristic of NP 6 and 7. 
Last occurrence (top): near top of NP8 zone (90% up, 57.4Ma, in Thanetian stage). Data source: Varol, (1989, fig. 12.4)
First occurrence (base): at base of NP6 zone (0% up, 59.5Ma, in Selandian stage). Data source: zonal marker (Perch-Nielsen 1985)
