Holococcolithophora kastriensis

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Holococcoliths -> tubeless -> fried egg monomorphic -> Holococcolithophora kastriensis
Sister taxa: A. quattrospina HOL, H. kastriensis, s. aff. quattrospina HOL

Citation: Holococcolithophora kastriensis Dimiza et al 2008
Rank: Species
Taxonomic discussion: The geus Holococolithophora was used here by Dimiza et al (2008) since there was no clear generic assignment for the species but it would be artifical to describe a new genus when this species most probably will prove to be associated with a previously described heterococcolith.

Distinguishing features: Monomorphic. BCs, tubeless with irregular central mound and two minute pores on the proximal side.

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: H. kastriensis [no catalog entry yet]

Morphology: The cocoliths are elliptical plates formed of a single crystallite thick layer. There is no central opening but two minute pores are visible on the proximal side - this is a consistent feature seen on multiple specimens. On the distal side there is an irregular central mound.
