Distinguishing features: Loxolith coccoliths with narrow outer cycle and wide central area filled with a granular plate. The plate is distinctly smooth and birefringent in XPL and crossed by curving extinction lines.

Distinguishing features: Loxolith coccoliths with narrow outer cycle and wide central area filled with a granular plate. The plate is distinctly smooth and birefringent in XPL and crossed by curving extinction lines.

Most likely ancestor: Percivalia nebulosa - at confidence level 3 (out of 5). Data source: Bralower et al (1989) and Aguado et al. (2000) both recorded common intermediates between these species.
