Taxonomy:

Citation: Pontosphaera pulchra (Deflandre in Deflandre & Fert, 1954) Romein, 1979
Rank: Species
Basionym: Discolithus pulcher Deflandre in Deflandre & Fert, 1954
Synonyms: Transversopontis pulcher (Deflandre in Deflandre & Fert, 1954) Perch-Nielsen, 1967
Notes & discussion: Like Pontosphaera pectinata but the two central holes are larger.

Distinguishing features: Pontosphaera with plate scalloped towards its outer edge and pierced by two holes, defining a transverse bar. The scalloping is defined by narrow radial ridges and furrows, which run inwards towards the centre.

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: Discolithus pulcher *

Morphology remarks: Note that bar is less oblique than in P. pulcheroides
