Rhabdosphaera poculii

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Syracosphaerales -> Rhabdosphaeraceae -> Rhabdosphaera -> Rhabdosphaera poculii
Sister taxa: R. clavigera, R. gracilenta, R. poculii, R. vitrea, R. xiphos, R. sp.

Citation: Rhabdosphaera poculii (Bona and Kernerne, 1966) Muller, 1974
Rank: Species
Basionym: Rhabdolithus poculi Bona and Kernerne, 1966

Distinguishing features: Similar to Discosphaera tubifera but with domal rather than open flaring end.

A new SEM illustration of this species from Ines Galovic is included here. It supports the inference that this species is close to Discosphaera tubifera, since the structure of both the stem and the base are very similar to that of Discosphaera [my interpretation - JRY 2020].

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: R. poculi *

Morphology: Rare species, predominantly known from the para-tethyan region.

Ines Galovic (Zagreb, Croatia)

Dear Jeremy, Obertorton for the Paratethys stage definition was stood for upper Badenian in that time. Today it is NN6 zone. In the Paratethys the species (characterise) appears during MMCO and it's very rare during the MMCT in Croatian Basin, after which disappear.

Best wishes :)
