Taxonomy:

Citation: Staurolithites minutus Burnett, 1997
Rank: Species
Notes & discussion: Staurolithites minutus Burnett, 1997 is a junior homonym of Staurolithites minutus Bramlette & Wilcoxon 1967 - hence a new name is needed for this taxon.

Distinguishing features: Small (holotype 3.7 µm) with virtually closed central area and very small cross

Morphology remarks: A very small species of Staurolithites which is distinctively highly-birefringent with a virtually closed central-area and an indistinct, extremely small axial cross.  The very small size of the species, its virtually closed central area and extremely small cross differentiate it from other Staurolithites species. [Burnett 1997]

Size: Holotype dimensions: 3.7 µm long, 2.2 µm wide
