Distinguishing features: Small (2-4 µm) Staurolithites with relatively broad, tapering axial cross bars, open spine base


Morphology remarks: Typically the central spine is broken leaving an open spine-base. Outline rather long-elliptical. Most distinctive in proximal view.

Geological Range:
Notes: A common Jurassic species, more sporadically recorded in the Cretaceous
Last occurrence (top): within Albian Stage (100.50-112.95Ma, top in Albian stage). Data source: based on range of illustrated specimens - and so Albian records of Wise & Wind 1977 and Lambert 1987
First occurrence (base): within Late Sinemurian Substage (190.82-195.31Ma, base in Sinemurian stage). Data source: Bown & Cooper 1998
