Distinguishing features: Sub-circular Stephanolithion with central cross and short rim spines

Citation: Stephanolithion laffittei Noël, 1957
Rank: species
Notes & discussion: Widely used for Rotelapillus coccoliths with central area spanned by eight radial bars and equivalent in sense to Rotelapillus crenulatus (Stover, 1966). However, the two type sketches (from the uppermost Jurassic) of laffittei are of different looking species, neither of which looks like the ‘crenulatus’ species concept. For further information, see Rotelapillus crenulatus.
