Syracosphaera bannockii

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Syracosphaerales -> Syracosphaeraceae -> Syracosphaera -> SY nodosa gp -> bannocki type -> Syracosphaera bannockii
Sister taxa: S. bannockii, S. orbiculus,

Taxonomy:

Citation: Syracosphaera bannockii (Borsetti & Cati 1976) Cros et al., 2000
Rank: Species
Basionym: Sphaerocalyptra bannockii Borsetti & Cati 1976

Distinguishing features: BCs robust rim (broad, with inner wall); XCs without ridges

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: Sphaerocalyptra bannockii * , ,

Morphology remarks:
XCs - narrowly elliptical, rim asymmetric wing at one end, blunt ended clockwise helical appearance (cf. H. orientalis); central area slightly vaulted; narrow medial cycle; central mass formed of single irregular cycle of elements.
BCs - elliptical; rim broad, with inner cycle; central area weakly vaulted, radial laths fuse toward centre but no discrete central mass.
CFCs - with spines, sometimes slightly curved.

Biology & life-cycles: HOL = Corisphaera sp. type A of Kleijne (1991) and Zygosphaera bannockii, see Cros et al. (2000); Geisen et al (2002), Daniels et al. (2014)
