Syracosphaera marginiporata HOL

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Holococcoliths -> tubeless -> Anthosphaera -> Syracosphaera marginiporata HOL
Sister taxa: S. marginiporata HOL, S. molischii HOL, A. lafourcadii, A. origami, A. periperforata, A. sp. type C, A. sp.,

Distinguishing features: BCs minute (<1 µm) rounded protrusion typically with multiple openings, and well separated from the rim.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Syracosphaera marginiporata Knappertsbusch 1993 HOL
Rank: Species
Synonyms:
Notes & discussion: This holococcolith type was informally decribed by Cros & Fortuño (2002) and subsequently proven to be the holoccollith phase of S. marginiporata by Supraha et al. (2018)

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: Anthosphaera sp. type B [no catalog entry yet]

Distinguishing features: BCs minute (<1 µm) rounded protrusion typically with multiple openings, and well separated from the rim.

Biology & life-cycles: An association of the heterococcolith Syracosphaera marginiporata with this holococcolith type was suggested by Cros & Fortuno (2002) based on observation of a single combination coccosphere. It was confirmed by Supraha et al. (2018), by observtion of a second, well-preserved, combination coccosphere.
