Tergestiella

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Mesozoic Survivors -> Watznaueriaceae -> Tergestiella
Sister taxa: Cyclagelosphaera, Tergestiella, Watznaueria,

Daughter taxa: (blue => in age window 0-800Ma)
Tergestiella species with the tube core elements forming a flat surface on the distal shield from which the inner tube elements protrude as a central cone. Pores occur both at the centre of the cone and between the tube core and distal shield elements. - Hagino et al. (2015).

Taxonomy:

Citation: Tergestiella Kamptner, 1941
Rank: Genus
Type species: Tergestiella adriatica Kamptner 1941
Synonyms: Cyclagelosphaera Noel 1965. This is a better known genus, described from the Jurassic, but the coccoliths show no significant differences (Hagino et al. 2015), some authors may however prefer to retain use of the genus Cyclagelosphaera at least for Mesozoic and Paleogene species.
Taxonomic discussion: This genus was rediscovered by Hagino et al. (2015)

Distinguishing features: Circular watznaueriacean placolith coccoliths.
