Triquetrorhabdulus longus

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Nannolith families inc sed -> Ceratolithaceae -> Triquetrorhabdulus -> Triquetrorhabdulus longus
Sister taxa: T. carinatus, T. challengeri, T. longus, T. milowii, T. sp.,

Citation: Triquetrorhabdulus longus Blaj & Young 2010
Rank: Species
Notes & discussion: As noted by Martini (1965) Triquetrorhabdulus specimens vary considerably in dimensions with two elongate main types:
(A) long thin specimens with parallel sides (entire specimens 25 - 50 x 1.5 - 2.5 microns, my obs.);
(B) shorter and broader specimens with distinct taper (15 - 25 x 2 - 4 microns, my obs.).
These are now distinguished as T. carinatus and T. longus respectively

Distinguishing features: A thin (<2µm), elongate (>25µm) species of Triquetrorhabdulus

Geological Range:
Notes: As documented by Blaj & Young (2010) the species has a well marked acme in the Late Oligocene - at least at in the Equatorial Pacific, however it occurs spoaradically over a wider agerange
Last occurrence (top): within NN3 zone (17.95-19.00Ma, top in Burdigalian stage). Data source: original description
First occurrence (base): within NP24 zone (26.84-29.62Ma, base in Rupelian stage). Data source: original description
