Distinguishing features: Small (3-5 µm) Watznaueria with relatively wide central-area spanned by around 5 parallel transverse bars.

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: W. fasciata *
Distinguishing features: Small (3-5 µm) Watznaueria with relatively wide central-area spanned by around 5 parallel transverse bars.
Morphology: Difficult to definitively identify in LM because the bars are imperceptible. Watznaueria coccoliths with open central areas have been named W. ovata, but these may include W. fasciata that have lost their central area bars or protococcoliths of other Watznaueria species.
