Wigwamma arctica

Classification: Coccolithophores -> Coccolith families inc sed -> Papposphaeraceae -> Wigwamma -> Wigwamma arctica
Sister taxa: W. annulifera, W. antarctica, W. arctica, W. armatura, W. triradiata, W. sp.,

Taxonomy:

Citation: Wigwamma arctica Manton et al., 1977
Rank: Species
Variants: In material from the northern hemisphere each wigwam rod is attached to an enlarged crystallite in the rim, as a result the coccoliths have a pentagonal profile.
Specimens from the Weddell Sea are triangular in profile since the rim crystallites where each wigwam rod is attached are not enlarged.

Distinguishing features: Monomorphic, all liths with wigwam of 4 rods.
