Original Description
[See Sporohantkenina Bermudez, 1937.] [Thalmann, 1942, loc. Cit. (under Cribohantkenina Thalmann)]: "Subgenotype: Hantkenina (Sporohantkenina) brevispina Bermudez, 1937 (non Hantkenina brevispina Cushman, 1924 [1925]), Soc. Cubana Hist. Nat., Mem., vol. 11, p. 151, pl.19, figs. 7, 8-10 (non fig.7) are here designated as a subgenotype. The specimens figured by Bermudez from the upper Eocene Chapapote formation of Mexico and from the Eocene of Camaguey Province in Cuba are entirely different from Cushman's photograph of Hantkenina brevispina from the Eocene of eastern Mexico." [See also Hantkenina Cushman, sensu stricto, Thalmann, 1942.] [Bronnimann, 1950, loc. Cit.]: "Thalmann (1942, op. cit., p.812) designated 'Bermudez' specimen on his plate 19, figures 8-10 (non fig.7)ÂÖas subgenotype.' Possibly he intended by this staement to designate a holotype for the species H. bermudezi, since a specimen can not be the type of a genus or subgenus. However, at least two specimens and possibly three are shown in figures 8-10. Lectotype (here designated): Bermudez, 1937, op. cit., pl. 19, fig. 9."
