Citation: Globigerinelloides algerianus Cushman and ten Dam 1948
Rank: Species
Basionym: Globigerinelloides algerianus
Taxonomic discussion: From Verga and Premoli Silva (2003): "Globigerinelloides algerianus displays a moderate morphological variability regarding the number of chambers of the outer whorl (from 10 to 12), more or less loosely coiling, and the peripheral outline ranging from subcircular to more or less ovoid and more or less lobate." Original description: Globigerinelloides algerianus Cushman and ten Dam 1948: Test planispirally coiled, the sides concave, periphery broadly rounded, in the adult stage becoming somewhat loosely coiled; chambers distinct, globular, 10-12 in the last-formed coil, increasing very gradually and evenly in size as added, in the last-formed portion with somewhat triangular projections at each side coming to a point above the middle of the preceding coil; sutures distinct, depressed, in the earlier stages nearly radial, later somewhat signoid; wall calcareous finely perforate, the surface somewhat rugose; aperture a small, arched opening in the median line at the base of the apertural face. Diameter 0.55-0.70 mm. thickness 0.15-0.18 mm. The species is rather common at the type locality.

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Globigerinelloides algerianus;

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): at top of G. algerianus zone (100% up, 118.9Ma, in Aptian stage). Data source: zonal marker (from Timescale Creator)
First occurrence (base): at base of G. algerianus zone (0% up, 122.2Ma, in Aptian stage). Data source: zonal marker (from Timescale Creator)

Plot of occurrence data:

Dec 2017 - Plotting of Neptune data has been re-enabled on the Mesozoic pages following revision of the age-models in Neptune. The data is, however, still very sparse for the Early Cretaceous
