Short diagnosis: High trochospire, lobate shell outline

NB The short diagnoses are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus. They have initially been copied from the diagnostic characters/distinguishing features sections of the Eocene and Paleocene Atlases, they will be edited as the site is developed.

Test morphology: Test small, very high trochospiral; chambers spherical , increasing slowly in size as added, much embracing, 3 to 4 globular chambers in the final whorl; surface smooth, largely covered with small , subconical tubercles or crystallites; aperture interiomar- ginal , umbilical , rather low arch , bordered by a thin lip. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Size: <150µm

Biogeography and Palaeobiology

Geographic distribution: Subpolar to tropical, common in temperate and subpolar assemblages. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Phylogenetic relations: Ga. uvula is distinguished by its small, smooth, high trochospiral test with characteristic microperforate surface ultrastructure. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Molecular Genotypes recognised (data from PFR2 database, June 2017. References: André et al. 2014; Ujiié & Lipps 2009; Stewart et al. 2001).
