Taxonomy

Citation: Hedbergella labocaensis Longoria 1974
Rank: Species
Basionym: Hedbergella labocaensis
Taxonomic discussion: Specimens of H. labocaensis are distinguished by having a minute test, with a moderately low trochospire; lobate equatorial periphery; petalloid chambers in the last whorl, increasing rapidly in height; last and penultimatimate chambers often extending over the umbilicus, which is narrow and deep. It differs from H. semielongata in having less elongate chambers in the last whorl and a smaller umbilicus.

Original description: Medium sized, test as with genus; consisting of three whorls; earlier whorls coiled in higher plane than final whorl; peripheral margin circular, lobate; six to seven chambers in the last whorl; petaloid on both spiral and umbilical sides, spherical to ovoid in peripheral view; ultimate and penultimate chambers often protruding towards the umbilical area; sutures radial, curved and depressed on both spiral and umbilical sides; umbilicus narrow, circular, deep; primary aperture extraumbilical-spiroumbilical, bordered by an imperforate Cap; relict flaps often visible in umbilical view.

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): within P. cheniourensis zone (118.02-118.93Ma, top in Aptian stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]
First occurrence (base): within H. gorbachikae (-Ma, base in stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]

Plot of occurrence data:

Dec 2017 - Plotting of Neptune data has been re-enabled on the Mesozoic pages following revision of the age-models in Neptune. The data is, however, still very sparse for the Early Cretaceous
