Taxonomy

Citation: Benthic origins
Rank: family
Taxonomic discussion: Molecular genetic data on the extant species Gallitelia vivans and Streptochilus globigerus has shown that they fall outsde the clade of the other extant planktic foraminifera and so have separate origins from the benthic foraminifera (Darling et al. 2007, Ujiie et al. 2008). The same may apply to some fossil taxa currently placed in the Guembelitriodea.
These two taxa are not directly related but it is convenient to group them here.

Catalog entries: Bolivinidae [not in catalog yet]

Distinguishing features: Biserial (separate evolutionary origin)

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.
