Taxonomy

Citation: Chiloguembelina trinitatensis (Cushman and Renz 1942)
Rank: Species
Basionym: Guembelina trinitatensis
Synonyms:
Taxonomic discussion: The holotype of this species differs from C. crinita by having an aperture that is symmetrically positioned on the chamber face, and it differs from C. wilcoxensis by its smaller size and slower, more continuous chamber size increase. The holotype has been extensively recrystallized so the primary wall texture is difficult to discern. [Olsson et al. 1999]

Catalog entries: Guembelina trinitatensis,

Type images:

Distinguishing features: Test biserial with chambers that increase uniformly in breadth and height. Aperture symmetrically centered, low-arched with a narrow, equidimensional lip.

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.

Description

Diagnostic characters: Distinguished by its biserial test with chambers that increase uniformly in breadth and height, and the symmetrically centered, low-arched aperture which is surrounded by a narrow, equidimensional lip. [Olsson et al. 1999]

Biogeography and Palaeobiology

Phylogenetic relations: Beckmann (1957) suggested that C. trinitatensis descended from C. crinita during the Paleocene, but see discussion under C. wilcoxensis. [Olsson et al. 1999]

Most likely ancestor: Chiloguembelina wilcoxensis - at confidence level 4 (out of 5). Data source: Olsson et al. 1999, f6.
Likely descendants: Chiloguembelina parallela;
