Globigerina nipponica

Original Description
Test rotaliform, dorsal side somewhat flattened, ventral side much convex, margin rounded, composed of about three coils; chambers gradually increasing in size as added, but last one much smaller than proceeding ones; wall inflated; aperture a long arched opening with a peripheral lip at base of inner face of last chamber.

Size: Diameter 0.5-1.0 mm.

Etymology: from Nippon - Japan

This new form is similar to Globigerina inflata d'Orbigny in its appearance, but differs from it by the last, smaller chamber of which apertural periphery has a characteristic lip. This is fairly common in the adjacent seas of Japan.

Occurences: A table of 30 occurrences from around Japan is given (p18), with abundances recorded as common to rare.
