Description


Test morphology: Test low trochospiral , equatorial periphery strongly lobulate , axial periphery broadly rounded; chambers spherical to subspherical; 4 rapidly enlarging chambers in the final whorl; spiral sutures radial, depressed; umbilical sutures slightly curved to nearly radial; surface densely perforated with circular to subcircular pores and elevated circular spine bases. Umbilicus wide and deep; aperture interiomarginal , umbilical-extraumbilical, a rather medium-wide arch extending to the spiral side of the test, without a lip or rim. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Biogeography and Palaeobiology


Phylogenetic relations: Ge. pseudobesa shows a wide range of variation in apertural position from extraumbilical to nearly umbilical as in Globigerina. The aperture commonly extends onto the spiral side of the test. Ge. pseudobesa closely resembles Ge. obesa but differs in the highly variable apertural position. The surface ultrastructure and general test morphology suggests that Ge. pseudobesa and Ge. obesa are closely related. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]
