Globorotalia (Menardella)

Citation: Globorotalia (Menardella) Bandy 1972
Rank: sub-genus

Current identification/main database link: menardii lineage

Original Description
sharp-edged to keeled branch [of the menardii lineage]

Extra details from original publication
The turborotaloids are well represented as a prominent lineage from the Paleogene to the Holocene. forming a central stock from which more than five branches arose at various times leading to keeled groups referred to Globorotalia (Blow; 1969). Some of these lineages leading from turborotaloids to separate keeled end products are summarized below:
....
3. Globorotalia (T.) scitula praescitula - archeomenardii - praemenardii - menardii series (the end form, Globorotalia menardii, with a well-developed keel, appearing in about Neogene zone 13 or slightly earlier in the Middle Miocene). I propose a new subgenus, Menardella, for the sharp-edged to keeled branch; the type species is designated as Globorotalia (Menardella) menardii ( d'Orbigny).
