Taxonomy

Citation: Globotruncana esnehensis Nakkady 1950
Rank: Species
Basionym: Globotruncana arca var. esnehensis Nakkady 1950
Synonyms: Globotruncana fareedi; Globotruncana sharawnaensis
Taxonomic discussion: Transitional forms between Globotruncana esnehensis and Globotruncana orientalis have been recognized. [copied from Chronos database]

Type images:

Original description: This variety has the dorsal side more convex than the ventral in most specimens but some which are more or less equally biconvex obviously link it to the typical form. It is somewhat similar to G. conica White, but has fewer whorls and chambers and the sutures on the dorsal side are more curved. Some specimens which have a conspicuously large last chamber are very similar to G. convexa Sandidge, but they lack the secondary keel.

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Globotruncana arca esnehensis, Globotruncana fareedi, Globotruncana sharawnaensis

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): within A. mayaroensis zone (67.30-69.18Ma, top in Maastrichtian stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]

Plot of occurrence data:

Dec 2017 - Plotting of Neptune data has been re-enabled on the Mesozoic pages following revision of the age-models in Neptune. The data is, however, still very sparse for the Early Cretaceous

  • Histogram - Neptune occurrence data from DSDP and ODP proceedings. Pale shading <50 samples in time bin. Interpret with caution & read these notes
