Original description: "Medium-sized, test as with genus; coiled in a low trochospire, formed by about 3 whorls, all in one plane; peripheral margin circular, lobulate; 7-8 chambers in the last whorl, increasing gradually in size as added; chambers spherical to ovoid on both spiral and umbilical sides; spherical to ovoid in peripheral view; sutures radial, straight, depressed on both spiral and umbilical sides; primary aperture extraumbilical-spiroumbilical umbilicus wide, shallow; relict apertures and flaps often observed on spiral side."

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Hedbergella luterbacheri

Emended description: Test medium sized, coiled in a very low trochospire; 2 to 2.5 whorls; 6.5 to 7.5 chambers in the outer whorl increasing gradually but rather slowly in size as added; chambers globular to subglobular; equatorial periphery circular to subcircular, slightly lobate; sutures depressed, radial and straight; umbilical area wide and moderately deep; aperture as a low to medium arch bordered by a lip, extraumbilical extending to the periphery. Wall smooth, finely perforate, that may be covered by perforation cones in the early chambers of the last whorl. [copied from Chronos database]

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): within G. algerianus zone (118.93-122.17Ma, top in Aptian stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]
First occurrence (base): within H. similis zone (128.73-130.37Ma, base in Barremian stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]

Plot of occurrence data:

Dec 2017 - Plotting of Neptune data has been re-enabled on the Mesozoic pages following revision of the age-models in Neptune. The data is, however, still very sparse for the Early Cretaceous
