Taxonomy

Citation: Marginotruncana coronata (Bolli, 1945)
Rank: Species
Basionym: Globotruncana lapparenti coronata

Type images:

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Globotruncana lapparenti coronata

Emended description: Translated from German: The test is usually large, 0.5-0.6 mm, larger than the "principal form" (main / original species?) and much compressed; the chambers are broad and flat. Especially on the outer chambers the two peripheral keels lie close together and even seem to merge to a single one, as observed in a few cases. The subspecies is identical to the "type 4, en couronne de feuilles" given by de Lapparent (1918). [copied from Chronos database]

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): within G. elevata zone (79.20-84.19Ma, top in Campanian stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]
First occurrence (base): within D. concavata zone (86.71-89.91Ma, base in Turonian stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]

Plot of occurrence data:

Dec 2017 - Plotting of Neptune data has been re-enabled on the Mesozoic pages following revision of the age-models in Neptune. The data is, however, still very sparse for the Early Cretaceous

God to hear you are finding the site useful. Brian Huber is the expert on Certaceous planktonics so I have forwarded your query on new species to him.

    best wishes
