Distinguishing features: Like Sphaeroidinellopsis but with supplementary apertures

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.

Description

Test morphology: The genus Sphaeroidinella is distinguished from Sphaeroidinellopsis by the presence of supplementary apertures on the spiral side. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Biogeography and Palaeobiology

Phylogenetic relations: Sphaeroidinella evolved from Sphaeroidinellopsis in the earliest Pliocene by developing supplementary apertures and larger test size (Text Fig. 23). The initial evolutionary appearance of Sphaeroidinella marks the base of Zone N19 (Early Pliocene). [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Most likely ancestor: Sphaeroidinellopsis - at confidence level 5 (out of 5). Data source: Kennett & Srinivasan 1983.
