Citation: Whiteinella Pessagno 1967
Rank: Genus
Basionym: Whiteinella archaeocretacea
Type species: Whiteinella archaeocretacea Pessagno, 1967
Taxonomic discussion: Hedbergellita was said to differ from Whiteinella in having a porous margin but is similar to the type species and others retained in Whiteinella. Carinate species are not congeneric.

Original description: Test low trochospiral coil with shallow umbilicus; lacking carinae, but often having imperforate peripheral bands; primaty aperture extraumbilical-umbilical in position often nearly umbilical with large portici; portici having infralaminal accessory apertures situated near suture contacts, but lacking inramanial accesory apertures. Outer wall radial hyaline perforate: septal wall microgranular hyaline, perforate: portici minogranular hyaline, perforate(?).

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Whiteinella

Distinguishing features: Test in low trochospiral coil, chambers globular, five to seven in the final whorl, increasing gradually in size, sutures radial, depressed; wall calcareous, finely perforate, surface pustulose, especially on earlier chambers; aperture an interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical arch, bordered by a wide apertural flap or porticus that extends into the umbilicus, those of successive chambers overlapping but not attached to previous flaps.

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): within Campanian Stage (72.05-83.64Ma, top in Campanian stage). Data source: Total of range of species in this database
First occurrence (base): within Cenomanian Stage (93.90-100.50Ma, base in Cenomanian stage). Data source: Total of range of species in this database

Plot of occurrence data:

Dec 2017 - Plotting of Neptune data has been re-enabled on the Mesozoic pages following revision of the age-models in Neptune. The data is, however, still very sparse for the Early Cretaceous
