Original Description

Translation: Other form of Cladococcus M. not close to the typical Polycystinen, with a small external shell and a spherical latticed central structure from which originate irregular, branched, thin and delicate, plain spines of same length, directed following different radial directions.

It is necessary to distinguish Acanthodesmia M., when the branched radial spines fork and join over the central capsule in a single siliceous ring. A small form that I have seen at Cette [Sète, French Mediterranean sea-shore] and that I would like to check again after an incomplete combustion of the living parts, can be related to it. (Translation by J.P.C.)]

Etymology: From the Greek acanthodesmia = thorn-band"
