Original Description
Plagiacanthidae with massive spicule consisting of apical, dorsal and primary lateral spines originated in a short median bar. Axial spine present or absent. Dorsal spine simple, but apical and especially primary lateral spines with a pair of spinules.

Etymology: From the Dane - of Danish origin, and the Latin plagium - hunting net.
