Editors' Notes
Haeckel listed Spongurus phalanga under the subgeneric name Spongurantha, but did not include the subgeneric name in the species name.
Spongurus phalanga is a new name here introduced by Haeckel for Spongurus cylindricus Haeckel in Stöhr, 1880. However, Pantanelli and De Stefani in 1880 had already given the name Spongurus stoehri to the speciment. Spongurus phalanga is thus an invalid name.
