Original description: Shell having two opposite similar basally three-bladed, narrow, needlelike polar spines; spherical cortical shell moderately thick-walled, the surface having four or five circular pores across a radius, these pores within subhexagonal areas, from whose nodal develop small sepaloid points, but as a whole the surface is neat and trim; medullary shell about 0.25-0.40 diameter of the cortical shell with eight to ten subhexagonal pores across a diameter; polar supporting beams thicker than others. Distinguishing characters (rw): Stylosphaera minor n. sp. differs from S. megaxyphos n. sp. in finer, smaller pores, thinner cortical shell and less prominent sepaloid points making the shell smoother.
Remarks on original description: [The authors here list this species under the subgeneric name Stylosphaerantha and include the subgeneric name in the species name.
