Original Description Diagnosis: Conochitinidae characterized by an outer layer clearly separated from the inner wall of the vesicle. The outer layer covers the entire chamber and sometimes the neck and forms a sleeve that can extend beyond the basal margin. Extra details from original publication Remarks: The outer wall-layer in the Velatachitininae differs from that of Eremochitininae by the fact that it is always clearly detached from the chamber and it can extend beyond the basal margin. In the Eremochitininae, the outer layer is clearly visible only in the aboral part of the chilinozoan as a siphon (Siphonochitina) or as a copula (Eremochitina).
