Citation: Cutichitininae Achab et al., 1993Taxonomic rank: subfamilyBasionym: Cutichitininae Achab et al., 1993Type species: Genus Cutichitina Achab et al., 1993Taxonomic discussion: Comparison: Specimens of an undescribed genus that seems to correspond to this new genus have been reported by Miller and Benson (1988). Halochitina Eisenack, 1968, and Pterochitina Eisenack, 1955, are distinguished from Cutichitina gen. nov. by their wing-shaped carina in a latitudinal position. Velatachitina Poumnot 1968 is larger, has a prosome structure, and a conical vesicle.
Distinguishing features: Parent taxon (Desmochitinidae): no neck This taxon: sleeve
NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus. They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.
Description
Emended description: Diagnosis: Ovoidal to spherical vesicle characterized by a membranous outer layer well-separated from the inner wall that forms a sleeve covering the entire vesicle. Chains observed. The outer layer contributes to the linear linkage.
Biogeography and Palaeobiology
Biostratigraphic distribution
Geological Range: Last occurrence (top): at top of Telychian Stage (100% up, 432.9Ma, in Sheinwoodian stage). Data source: Total of ranges of the species in this database First occurrence (base): within Ordovician Period (443.07-486.85Ma, base in Tremadocian stage). Data source: Total of ranges of species in this database
Plot of occurrence data: NB The ranges given for genera and higher taxa are the total ranges of species included in that taxon in this database - so the true total range of the taxon will usually be longer
Range-bar - range as quoted above, pink interval top occurs in, green interval base occurs in.
Triangles indicate an event for which a precise placement has been suggested. Parent: Desmochitinidae
