Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Desmochitinidae): no neck
This taxon: spiny

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.

Description

Emended description:
Diagnosis: Ornamented Desmochitinidae (with cones, spines, or hairs, either simple or multipodal); chamber spheroidal, cylindro-ovoid or conoidal; collar present, sometimes well developed; mucron generally differentiated but short; inter-chamber connections are fragile.

Biogeography and Palaeobiology

Biostratigraphic distribution

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): at top of Givetian Stage (100% up, 378.9Ma, in Frasnian stage). Data source: Total of ranges of the species in this database
First occurrence (base): within Ordovician Period (443.07-486.85Ma, base in Tremadocian stage). Data source: Total of ranges of species in this database

Plot of occurrence data:
NB The ranges given for genera and higher taxa are the total ranges of species included in that taxon in this database - so the true total range of the taxon will usually be longer
